AEDs

Automated External Defibrillators, known as AEDs, are designed to treat patients experiencing sudden cardiac arrest. AEDs detect the rhythm of the heart and deliver a shock if needed in an attempt to re-establish a regular beat. The use of an AED requires specialized electrode pads; these are available in adult and pediatric versions in order to deliver the right strength of shock to the system. AEDs are carried by emergency medical teams and are also available in public access designs.
