Codecuffs are a medical device used to immobilize the upper extremities during respiratory or cardiac arrest or major trauma. The primary aim of Codecuffs is to minimize the movement of loose or flailing arms while transporting a patient from the scene to the hospital. Codecuffs also mitigate the risk of losing an inserted IV/IO during transportation. The Codecuffs are lightweight, easy to apply, and entirely adjustable to fit patients of varying sizes, ranging from pediatric to large adult patients. Furthermore, they are facile to clean and exceptionally durable. The Codecuffs can be applied to a patient in less than 20 seconds. As opposed to gauze or tape wrapping, the Codecuffs protect patient dignity by being adjustable to keep the patient comfortable and secure without feeling constrained by tight gauze or tape. In addition, Codecuffs can serve as a useful reminder for patients being transported on a stair chair, as the device restrains them from reaching out to grab handrails or walls, which can put medics at risk of falling. It is crucial to note that Codecuffs are not designed to be used as a restraint device for combative patients. Conscious and alert patients can remove these cuffs and therefore they are not classified as a restraint device. Codecuffs are specifically designed for use on unconscious or altered mental status patients who do not have control of their extremities.
